Dunker
Training Course
Aim: The Dunker Training Course was designed for Army
Aviators, Crew, and Passengers who have exposure to overwater
flight. The course meets all of the requirements of AR 95-1
for overwater flight and HEEDS training. This course combines
the Aircraft Ditching and Emergency Breathing course into a
comprehensive 2-day program designed for military personnel.
Content:
This two-day course is comprised of lectures,
discussion, demonstrations and practical exercises to achieve
the course objectives:
Emergency egress
training:

Helicopter
underwater escape training using the Modular
Egress Training Simulator (METS™) (Practical)

Fire fighting in the
cabin/Cockpit (Practical)
Rescue/recovery training – helicopter rescue at sea simulation
(practical)

Crewmember duties,
responsibilities and emergency coordination

Hazards to aircraft
and crewmembers
-
Survival equipment
carried on aircraft

Aircraft
accident/incident history
-
Crewmember
incapacitation
-
Proper brace
positions, emergency exit jettisoning and cabin evacuation

Life raft deployment
Emergency water survival skills:

Using Life Preserver
Units (LPU)

Surface survival
formations and hypothermia mitigation positions

Boarding and
righting a life raft

Use of surface
rescue devices in use by Search and Rescue responders
