Dunker Training Course

Aim:
The Dunker Training Course was designed for Army Aviators, Crew, and Passengers who have exposure to overwater flight. The course meets all of the requirements of AR 95-1 for overwater flight and HEEDS training. This course combines the Aircraft Ditching and Emergency Breathing course into a comprehensive 2-day program designed for military personnel.

Content:
This two-day course is comprised of lectures, discussion, demonstrations and practical exercises to achieve the course objectives:

Emergency egress training:

  • Helicopter underwater escape training using the Modular Egress Training Simulator (METS™) (Practical)

  • Fire fighting in the cabin/Cockpit (Practical)
    Rescue/recovery training – helicopter rescue at sea simulation (practical)

  • Crewmember duties, responsibilities and emergency coordination
  • Hazards to aircraft and crewmembers
  • Survival equipment carried on aircraft
  • Aircraft accident/incident history
  • Crewmember incapacitation
  • Proper brace positions, emergency exit jettisoning and cabin evacuation
  • Life raft deployment

Emergency water survival skills:

  • Using Life Preserver Units (LPU)
  • Surface survival formations and hypothermia mitigation positions
  • Boarding and righting a life raft
  • Use of surface rescue devices in use by Search and Rescue responders

HEEDS/ SEA Mk 2:

  • EBS equipment characteristics (HABD, HEEDS or SEA Mk 1.5)
  • Preflight inspection
  • Clearing procedures
  • Egress considerations
  • Shallow Water Egress Trainer - SWET™ (practical)
  • Helicopter underwater escape training using the Modular Egress Training Simulator (METS™)
