Sea Survival Course
 

Aim:
This program is designed to provide all personnel working and traveling on or over water (i.e. seafarers, offshore oil industry personnel, aircraft crews and passengers) with the knowledge and skills necessary to care for themselves in a sea survival situation for an indefinite period of time and to participate to the maximum extent in their rescue.

Content:
This one-day course consists of both classroom and practical sessions in an open-water environment including:

  • Introduction to sea survival techniques, equipment and environmental hazards
  • Coping with physical, psychological, and physiological stress
  • Basic principles of Sea Survival
  • Personal rescue techniques
  • Use of signaling devices, immersion suits, personal floatation devices, liferafts and other survival equipment
  • Introduction to search and rescue resources
  • Recovery of water stranded victims by devices used in helicopter and vessel rescues (practical)
  • Group survival formations (practical)
  • Liferaft deployment and survival techniques (practical)
  • Recovery by a Fast Rescue Craft and moving transfer between rescue vehicles (practical)
